Walk

A health walk is a ‘short, safe, social, local, low level, led walk’ and is a great way to become more physically active and meet new people.

The walks are led by qualified leaders who are ready to provide all the encouragement and support needed to help you become more active and are completely free.

All you need to do is wear comfortable shoes, dress for the weather and turn up ten minutes before the walk is due to leave.

For further information contact the Walk Jog Run Co-ordinator at vttrando.fr.

Walk Moray Programme

Did you know that to be healthy, adults need to be active for at least 30 minutes a day? That wasn’t difficult in the past, as we were much more physically active in our daily lives. Now that we have machines to do most of our work for us and rely more and more on cars for transport, most people aren’t active enough to be healthy.

Walking is a great way to be active – we are all designed to walk with no need to buy special equipment or learn a new skill. It’s free, you can to it any time you like and all you need is a comfy pair of shoes and waterproofs for the weather!

The walks in the Walk Moray programme are all graded to encourage you to start slowly and build up gradually:

level 1 walks

Level 1 walks are all about half a mile long, which will take you between 15 and 20 minutes, are as flat as possible and with good walking surfaces. Most of them are suitable for wheelchairs and buggies.

level 2 walks

Level 2 walks are a little longer, some with slight inclines and maybe a little rougher underfoot, but still less than 45 minutes long. Some of these are suitable for wheelchairs and buggies, but may need more care especially if there has been rain.

level 3 walks

Level 3 walks are up to an hour long, with slopes and maybe on rough paths.

The aim is for you to start off at Level 1 walks and progress to Level 2 and Level 3 walks in your own time as you become more confident and able.

JS Achievements

JS Aberlour

“Jog Scotland Aberlour has now been ‘up and running’ for over a year and members have succesfully completed running events ranging from 5k to half-marathon distance and walking events up to the full marathon distance. 4 members are currently signed up to participate in the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon in October and some members now regularly run with Keith & District AAC on a Wednesday evening. Although these achievements are impressive, we are equally delighted at the progress of all our walk/run groups and look forward to supporting them all in the future.

“I have been with Jog Scotland for just over a year now and have completed 10k’s and half-marathons, I have also entered the Loch Ness Marathon in October and thank Jog Scotland for encouraging and supporting me throughout these achievements.”

Leanne Barry

JS Buckie

“I just love the whole experience. The training is very professional and varied and everyone is made to feel welcome, whatever their standard. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and was apprehensive since I could not run 5 metres. Now I can do 5 and 10Ks. Not only am I happier and proud of myself, but I have also reduced my blood pressure by a significant margin. If I can do it at my age, almost anyone can.”
